Wine Dinner at Dos Perros!

We have one wine dinner coming up, Tuesday October 6th at 7pm at Dos Perros in Durham. Dos Perros offers classic Mexican cuisine, and the dinner include 4 courses and 4 wines to highlight some of the best of South American varietals.

Here are notes from Durham’s own Charlie Deal, chef and owner at Dos Perros:

I was in South America on a wine buying trip not long ago and came away particularly impressed with two segments, high-end Chilean Sauvignon Blanc and Argentine Cabernet.  In fact, the Argentine winemakers, worried that their moment in the sun that Malbec’s popularity had given them would wane, asked us what they should put forward next.  The answer was simple, it was the abundant, nuanced Cabernet that we had in our glasses.  Don’t get me wrong, I love a good Malbec as much as the next guy, and I totally get why we singled that out, as opposed to another Cab.  But, here’s the thing, Argentine Cab is not just another Cab.  It’s profound and sometimes spectacular.

As for high-end Chilean Sauvignon Blanc, I actually came back to the states looking for the one I tried and found it wasn’t imported.  It was, actually, through good fortune, when Thomas and I sat down to taste for this meal, that I tried one delicious enough to remind me of the one I’d tried in Santiago, so I’m excited to be using it in this meal.

As far as the Torrontes/Riesling and Carmenere, not only are they delicious, but they’re also entirely appropriate for the meal as both grapes are essentially unique to South America.

I’m excited to showcase the flavors of Mexico with these exotic and delicious wines and hope you will join us.

Thomas will be there to introduce and discuss the wines. Come dine with us, drink with us, and partake in some fantastic local cuisine!

Tickets are $49 plus tax and gratuity. We have plenty of seats available– please email thomas@winefiftyfive.com to reserve, and let him know of any dietary restrictions. Seats do fill up quickly, especially with such great wine and food!
